just not seeing the point

Does anyone on my list play around over on Tumblr? And if you do, would you mind cluing me in on the phenomenon? It seems like yet another blogging site, only messier than any other I've run across so far. I'm not seeing the attraction, but I'm willing to learn/be sold on the idea... *hopeful*

As far as I've been able to sort out, it's a picture-focused blog site. It's designed for posts that are centered around images, and it does them well. Or maybe everyone just thinks it does, so the people who want their blog posts to be "NIFTY WEB COMIC PIC + 35 words of squee" go to Tumblr.

It is definitely more picture focused. What I love about tumblr is the 'reblog', 'love/favourite' and 'queue' function.

reblog function - you can repost a person's entry whether it written or picture form, and add your own thoughts to it.

love/favourite function - as it suggest you can love/favourite a person's post and it will show up on the bottom of your page (or a separate page dependent on the layout you are using).

queue - something that I love quite a bit. You can queue posts to automatically update on the time and days you set.

I don't use tumblr for anything by picture post following. It is a treasure trove of comics, manga, photos and just random picspams. Though I have just recently noticed a trend for people to post written content - fics and reviews. It is still a relative new blog platform but I adore the reblog and queue function. Once you find the people you want to follow (the search function for all of tumblr is a must) the whole is kind of cool. Like I said, I use it for the pic spam but nothing of real written content.

I don't have one, but I've been considering it. If only because it's kind of like how on deviantArt, people are more likely to "like" something then leave a review or a comment, which would let a writer really know how many people have read your story. From a writer's perspective, I guess.

Aww! Cloud pictures! I'm a little ashamed at how many photos I take of my cat...

But I still spam my flist with them, lol.
